Welcome to Autism Plus

About Us

Formerly known as “Thorne House Services for Autism” we have over 20 years experience in providing care and support for people with autism and related conditions. We are an autism charity & we work nationally with over 26 purchasing authorities who support our work in a variety of ways and we have established excellent working relationships in partnership with them.

Our core service offering comprises Residential and Supported Living, Adult Learning, Domiciliary Care, Day Service Provision, Respite and Community Support. We have recently acquired a new Residential Service in Scarborough for 12 new clients and are tendering for new opportunities elsewhere across the north of England.

Increasingly our core offering has been extended as a consequence of responding to the needs of our present and future clients from developing a leading edge Person Centred Planning Approach.

We now offer a dedicated Employment Agency for people with Aspergers Syndrome and have been awarded a Pathways to Work contract in partnership with A4e. We are planning further developments within the Employment market which will be announced soon.

Our vision is to be the service of choice for people with autism and related communication conditions including people with learning and other disabilities.

Autism Plus would like to congratulate Sarah on the publication of her book. Sarah works as an Employment Coach for Jobsteps,

part of Autism Plus. Her Where's my pen coverrole is to set up and run a project to support individuals already accessing services within the charity,

to decide what they would like to do in the future. The project is called First Routes and involves one to one sessions and/or group work to develop confidence, motivation and increase work related skills. The current group in Sheffield are about to run a small shop for a few hours in the Coleridge Resource Centre, using a variety of work related skills.
Sarah’s interest in learning disabilities and autism has stemmed from her personal experiences of dyspraxia. The empathy she has, means her work and support for individuals is genuine, Sarah’s aim is to increase awareness about dyspraxia and all learning/developmental disabilities.
She has had an e-book published recently and it will be coming out in paperback hopefully soon. In her book titled, Where’s My Pen? A Guide to Supporting People with Dyspraxia, she aims to help people of all ages who suffer from dyspraxia to live a more positive life and realise everyone has something to offer. People with learning difficulties can often be of average or above average intelligence and given the right support, can achieve things beyond their wildest dreams; like Sarah with this book.
She hopes she can make a positive difference to people, and there are elements of the book where it can apply to all disabilities. If you would like to read an extract of the book and are interested in more information then please click on the link below:

Sarah would like to thank PJ Hughes, (author of “Reflections: Me and Planet Weirdo” which is also available for sale from Chipmunk Publishers), an individual with Asperger Syndrome, for recommending the publisher, and also to Amy Clarke, for designing the front cover.
